    The Ministry of National Defense (MND) stated today (22nd) that as the US government announced on February 21, EST, it would conduct the procedure of "Notification to Congress" regarding arms sales to Taiwan for the "Advanced Planning on Link-16 System Upgrade" project, with a value totaling US$75 million.

    The MND pointed out that this arms sale will require the US to carry out comprehensive planning and furnish priority escalation operations for the update of data links that integrate the command and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance systems of the Armed Forces to enhance the effectiveness of existing joint combat efforts, and establish the interoperability of military strengthen, thus bringing joint combat power into play. The MND would also like to express its thanks to the US government for its assistance for Taiwan to improve and enhance its defense capabilities.

    The MND emphasized that the US has implemented its security commitments to Taiwan based on the Taiwan Relations Act, Six Assurances to Taiwan, and Taiwan Enhanced Resilience Act. In addition, Taiwan and the United States will continue to consolidate their security partnership as they jointly safeguard the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait and Indo-Pacific region.
